Academy terms and disclaimer

Please read this before you use the Academy. By adding your name for a quiz, you agree to it. Last updated 22 October 2026.

Who runs the Academy

Deciphr Academy is run by SP Global (Pty) Ltd, which operates Deciphr. These terms add to Deciphr's Terms of Use and Disclaimer & Indemnity, and are read together with them.

Education only, not advice

Everything in the Academy, including lessons, diagrams, videos, quizzes, flashcards and certificates, is general education. It is not financial, investment, legal, tax, accounting or any other professional advice. It is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any asset, to use any product or service, or to take any action. Using the Academy does not create an adviser, client or fiduciary relationship. Speak to a qualified professional about your own situation.

Built from publicly available information

Lessons summarise information that anyone can find: laws, publications from regulators and governments, court records, technical standards, official documentation, research and reporting. Each factual sentence links to its source. Putting things into plain English means simplifying, so the original source, not our summary, is the authority. Sources can change after the date we last checked them, which is shown on each module.

No promise of accuracy

We work hard to get things right, but we do not promise that the Academy is complete, correct, current or free of errors. It is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will look at it.

No endorsement, no connection

When we name, quote or link to any company, project, protocol, token, exchange, market maker, bank, regulator, government body, court, university, publication or person, it does not mean they endorse, sponsor, approve of or are connected with Deciphr Academy. It also does not mean we endorse them, their products or their views. Deciphr Academy is not endorsed by any of them. Names, logos and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify and describe.

Legal cases and enforcement actions

When we describe charges, lawsuits or enforcement actions, we report what the cited official documents say on the date we checked them. Charges and allegations are not proof of wrongdoing, and people and companies are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Outcomes can change, for example on appeal.

Made-up examples

Examples such as Brindlecove Labs, Quarrystone Trading, Larkspur Liquidity and Pellowmark Bank, and the people, tokens and numbers in them, are fictional. Any resemblance to a real company, token or person is accidental. Numbers in examples and quizzes are for practice only.

Other websites and other people's content

We link to and quote other websites, and may show other people's videos through their official players. We do not control them, and we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices. Their own terms apply.

Certificates

A certificate records that someone completed a free online course and passed its quiz. It is not a degree, licence, professional qualification or accreditation, and it is not proof of identity, knowledge or competence. The name on it is typed by the learner and is not checked. We may withdraw a certificate at any time, for example if it was gained by cheating or uses someone else's name.

Using the Academy fairly

Use your own real name. Do not use bots or scripts, try to get around the quiz rules, collect or publish the question banks, or attack, overload or misuse the site. We may delete names, attempts and certificates that break these rules.

Your decisions and your risk

Crypto-assets are risky. Their value can fall to zero, transactions usually cannot be reversed, and smart contracts, bridges, exchanges and wallets can fail or be hacked. Any decision you make, and its result, is yours alone.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Deciphr, SP Global (Pty) Ltd and their directors, officers, staff and contractors are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind, whether direct, indirect, incidental or consequential, arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Academy, its content, its certificates or any linked website. The Academy is free; where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid to use the Academy. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that the law does not allow us to exclude.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Deciphr, SP Global (Pty) Ltd and their directors, officers, staff and contractors against any claim, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use or misuse of the Academy or its certificates, your breach of these terms, the name you enter, or your breach of any law or of anyone else's rights. This is subject to the exceptions above and to any right you have by law.

Copyright

The lessons, diagrams, videos and quizzes are owned by SP Global (Pty) Ltd. You may share links and short quotes with credit. Do not copy whole lessons or any quiz questions. Material we quote belongs to its owners.

Changes, law and your rights

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version, and we record which version you agreed to. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, as set out in Deciphr's Disclaimer & Indemnity. Nothing here removes a mandatory right you have under the law of the country where you live.
